ABIDE BY THESE RULES
The following rules and regulations are for the protection and benefit of all persons who may use Village West, Incorporated facilities (hereinafter referred to as the “pool”). They are designed to ensure the safe and sanitary operation of the pool, and to promote consideration towards others, so that all may enjoy their time at the pool. These rules are applicable to all persons authorized to use the pool, i.e. members, their families and guests, and Village West, Inc. employees (except in times of emergency).
II. MANAGEMENT
A. The day-to-day operation of the pool is the responsibility of the Pool Manager.
The scope of the Manager’s duties includes the enforcement of discipline for
the safety of all persons concerned. In the absence of the designated Pool
Manager, the designated Assistant Pool Manager, or other duly designated
employee, assumes the duties of the Pool Manager.

III. ENFORCEMENT OF THE RULES
Members who have suggestions or complaints regarding the operating rules or
their interpretation should address the Board of Directors.
B. The Pool Manager and his/her staff have authority to enforce these rules as
interpreted by the Board of Directors. They may suspend the pool privileges
of any person for at least 24 hours when such person fails to observe the rules
or acts improperly. The Board of Directors shall have the authority to suspend
the privileges of any user of the pool and facilities for such period of time as
is deemed reasonable for the infraction of these rules, in accordance with the
By-laws of Village West, Inc.
C. Progressive Penalty Policy
1. 1st infraction: Warning
2. 2nd infraction: 15 minute benching
3. 3rd infraction: The manager shall eject any person from the facility for
at least 24 hours. If the person ejected is under the age of 18, a
parent or guardian will be notified.
1. Profanity (cursing) to a staff member or patron
2. Fighting, pushing or throwing someone into the pool
3. Being intoxicated (alcohol or drugs) on pool property
4. Harassment of, or arguing with, the guards or members of the Board of
Directors will NOT be permitted.
NOTE: Individuals refusing to comply with such discipline will be remanded to
the custody of the Fairfax County Police. Such conduct is also considered
grounds for termination of membership privileges.
A. ENTIRE POOL AREA
-NO BACKWARD DIVES, anywhere, any time!
-FOOD OR DRINKS are to be consumed in the pavilion or grassy area, ONLY.
-SMOKING IS PROHIBITED.
-NO GLASS containers.
-NO GUM is allowed.
-ALCOHOL is prohibited, unless approved by the Board of Directors for a
sanctioned function.
-NO PUSHING, acrobatics, wrestling or undue disturbance in or about the pool
will be allowed. Water sports may be allowed at the discretion of the Pool
Manager in uncrowded conditions.
-NO RUNNING on the pool deck.
-NO SPITTING OR SPOUTING OF WATER
-NO SQUIRT GUNS or other “squirting” devices are allowed.
-NO THROWING of objects from inside to outside of the pool.
-BALLS: small, soft balls, such as Koosh balls are allowed; water basketballs,
when being used for playing water basketball or beach balls for water volleyball
are allowed.
-CHILDREN WEARING FLOTATION DEVICES: only Water Wings or USCG approved
life vests are permitted in the main pool for safe, artificial support. PARENT OR
GUARDIAN MUST BE WITHIN ARMS REACH AT ALL TIMES.
-GAMES should be limited to uncrowded conditions, and must not infringe on other
patrons use of the pool, or enjoyment of the pool. Have fun, and please, be
considerate of others.
-LADDERS are to be used for exiting, not entering, the pool. Exception is made
for physical handicaps.
-LIFEGUARDS sitting in the chairs should not be distracted from their duty. Patrons
may not engage them in lengthy conversations. If you have a question or issue,
please seek out the manager on duty, or other guard in charge who is not “in the chair”.
-LOITERING: loitering around the guard office, or around the guards as they are
working is prohibited.
-MASKS, SNORKELS AND SWIM FINS will be permitted in uncrowded conditions
at the manager’s discretion. Masks must be made with tempered or safety glass. Fins
may not be worn on deck.
-PAGING SYSTEM is for pool business and emergency situations.
-RAFTS are permitted only on Raft Night. “Noodles” will be allowed at the discretion of
the manager. “Noodles” may not be used as a weapon in any manner. The manager
has the authority to revoke privileges, or to confiscate an item.
-ROPES/LANE LINES are not to be pulled on, tugged, or held on to.
-TRASH AND STUFF Patrons are responsible for personal belongings and for disposing
of trash. Unclaimed personal items will be disposed of after one week.
-WATER BASKETBALL can be played during uncrowded conditions. Hanging on the
rim is prohibited.
-ONLY CHILDREN 5 AND UNDER ARE PERMITTED IN THE WADING POOL ITSELF.
-ALL CHILDREN WITHIN THE WADING POOL ENCLOSURE MUST BE SUPERVISED
AT ALL TIMES: No child is to be left in the wading pool enclosure without the personal
and specific supervision of a responsible person, 13 years or older, designated by the
parent. It is the parents’ duty to ensure that a responsible person is exercising
supervisory control over their child. No guard will be assigned to the wading pool.
Guards have the responsibility for seeing that the rules governing the use of the wading
pool are followed.
-RAFTS AND “NOODLES” ARE PROHIBITED in the wading pool at all times.
C. SHALLOW END NO DIVING.
D. LAP LANE
-The lap lane is to be used for swimming laps only.
-DO NOT CROSS THE LAP LANE to get to the diving well or the ladder.
E. DIVING BOARD AREA
-NO BACKWARD DIVES
-NO DIVING OFF THE SIDE OF THE BOARD
-NO FLOTATION DEVICES
-NO INWARDS, CUT-AWAYS, GAINERS or other types of dives that propel a diver
back towards the diving boards are permitted.
-NO THROWING of objects to individuals entering the pool from the diving boards.
-ONE (1) BOUNCE ONLY.
-ONE person will be allowed on a diving board at a time. Do not step up onto the
board until the previous diver has cleared the diving well and gotten out of the water.
-EXIT the diving well as soon as you surface, using the ladders only. DO NOT CROSS
THE LAP LANE!!!
-YOU MUST PASS THE SWIM TEST to be allowed on the diving boards (swim 1
length of the lap lane and tread water for 1 minute).
F. PAVILION
-DO NOT leave towels or other personal items on the tables in the pavilion.
-PARTIES The Pavilion is available for rental by MEMBERS only for private parties,
HOWEVER, out of consideration for the other members using the pool and pavilion, only
HALF of the pavilion may be reserved for private use. Reservations must be made in
advance through the Social Chairperson Trish Stiles (703) 451-2812. A rental fee of
$25.00 will be charged for its use. An additional fee of $4.00 per swimming guest, who
is not a member of Village West Pool, will be charged, $2.00 after 5:30 p.m. A guest
passbook is available which allows 10 guest visits for $35.00. The reserving member
is entirely responsible for set-up and clean-up of any private party. They are also
personally responsible for seeing that all guests obey the Pool Rules as outlined in
this document, and for full payment.
-PLEASE CLEAN UP when you are finished.
All persons using the pool are required to properly identify themselves and sign in
at the front desk. The pool has the authority to require confirming identification for
any person seeking admission to the pool or already within the pool enclosure when
there is any doubt as to identity. It is the responsibility of members to identify,
register and pay admission for guests upon entry. All persons must sign out as they
leave the pool.
VI. POOL OPERATIONS AND HOURS
A. HOURS OF OPERATION The hours of operation for 2008 are as follows:
May 24-June 17: Weekdays 4-800 pm Weekends 12-8 pm
June 18-Sept 1: Weekdays 11 am-8 pm
Weekends 12-8 pm
Regularly scheduled hours may vary for swim meets or other special events.
A calendar of events is available at the front desk.
B. REST PERIODS Every hour, all persons under the age of 16 will promptly
vacate the pool, on signal, for a period of 15 minutes. A signal will be
given when the pool is again open for general use.
C. POOL CLOSING The pool will be closed and the pool property vacated at
any time the Pool Manager so directs because of a health or safety hazard.
D. TRESPASS Any unauthorized person entering the pool property before or
after operating hours without the permission of the Board of Directors will
be considered to be trespassing and will be prosecuted.
VII. GUEST RULES
A. A guest privilege shall consist of admission to and use of the pool facilities by
any person who is not a paid member of Village West Pool.
B. All guests will be registered at the front desk, and must always be accompanied by a
MEMBER 13 years or older. (Babysitters are allowed to escort child members if they
are over 13 and have written permission from the parent, however they are subject
to guest fee if not a member.)
C. Members are responsible for the conduct of their guests. The member who registers
them while on pool property must accompany guests.
D. Members must pay at time of admission for EACH guest.
E. All guests are subject to the same rules as members.
F. General guest privileges may be temporarily suspended, at the discretion of the
Pool Manager, to alleviate the overcrowding of the pool.
G. The daily guest fee is $4.00 per person over the age of 2; after 5:30 pm, the fee
drops to $2.00 per person. A guest passbook is available for $35.00 which
allows 10 guest visits per book.
VIII. HEALTH A. All members, including children, shall use the pool and its facilities at their own risk.
A. Swimming and wading during and immediately following any illness is inadvisable.
Individuals having colds, coughs, infections of the skin, eyes, respiratory or
gastrointestinal systems, or wearing bandages will be excluded from the pool.
B. Spitting, spouting of water, chewing gum or blowing the nose in the pool are strictly
prohibited.
C. All injuries occurring on the premises must be reported immediately to the Pool
Manager.
D. In cases of an emergency or when a parent cannot be reached, the Pool
Manager is authorized to call for medical service or ambulance service.
The member concerned shall pay any charge.
E. The Pool Manager may require a person who has become chilled or overtired to
leave the pool.
F. Children not completely toilet trained will wear tight, waterproof pants under their
swimsuits.
G. Only bathing/swimsuits and swim shorts may be worn in the swimming pool.
Walking shorts, cut off jeans or other garments are not allowed to be worn in
the pool. A clean white T-shirt may be worn, at the discretion of the pool staff,
for the prevention of sunburn.
H. No pets will be allowed on the pool premises, exception: guide dogs for the blind
and/or hearing.
IX. SAFETY
B. EVENING SWIMMING: After 6 pm, all children 12 and under must be accompanied
by a member 16 or older.
C. Swimming during off-hours or in the absence of a lifeguard is strictly prohibited for all
members, guests and employees.
X. SWIMMING LESSONS
Swim lessons are offered at Village West Please refer to the front desk for times
and fees.
XI. PARKING AND DRIVING
A. Members and guests are cautioned to drive slowly and carefully on the driveway
and the parking area. Maximum speed limit is 10 miles per hour. Pedestrians
have the right of way at all times.
B. Blowing of horns except, as necessary, to avoid an accident, is not allowed.
Children will not be summoned by blowing of horns.
C. Bicycles should be parked in the bike rack.
D. Village West, Inc and the pool staff are not responsible for the loss or damage
to personal belongings, bicycles, or automobiles located on or near the pool
property.
The phone in the office is for official business only. The pool phone is normally for
business purposes only. A simple phone message will be taken (name and phone
number) for incoming calls and posted at the front desk. Guards and Village West
pool are NOT responsible for relaying of phone messages.
XIII. GENERAL
A. Willful and malicious destruction, damage, or removal of property, including
signs, regulations, decorations, equipment, trees, or any other plant life belonging
to Village West Pool, shall be punishable by forfeiture of the member’s pool
privileges until such a time as full reimbursement is made for the restoration costs.
Legal action will be instituted in those instances deemed necessary.
B. Members and guests are expected to be “Good Neighbors”. Please do not walk on
private property adjacent to the swimming pool grounds, use parking in front of
homes (unnecessarily), be loud or rude, or in any other way be inconsiderate.
C. Tables in the pool are not to be used for the storage of towels, etc. If there are no
pool chairs available for adults, persons under the age of 18 will, upon request,
vacate the chairs.
D. Fairfax County Police are authorized to enter the pool at any time and exercise the
same authority as in any public place.
XIV. PREVIOUS RULES AND REGULATIONS
These rules and regulations for the day-to-day operation of Village West, Inc
superseded all previously established rules and regulations drawn for like purposes.
